In 1946, peaches had become a large source of income in central and south Georgia. Located in Woodbury, Georgia surrounded by peach farms, Bill Rudder borrowed $600 and started his company to produce wooden peach crates. He would name his company Woodbury Box Company.

Seventy-five years later, peaches are still a staple of Georgia but the wooden crates have long been replaced by corrugated boxes. Mr. Rudder would change his company manufacturing capabilities and products more than once over the next 40 years to successfully adapt and survive.

After his death, the company was passed down to his daughter, Dr. Susan Hall, who moved the company into a new 65,000 square foot facility twenty miles away in Thomaston, Georgia. Dr. Hall invested in new equipment redefining the company and it’s capabilities. Products previously made by hand were now made with CNC and robotic machinery. A powder coat line was added to give the company the ability to efficiently finish products. The company’s name was changed to Chief Manufacturing to honor Bill Rudder who was known affectionately as “The Chief” by all his grandchildren.

Today one of those grandchildren, Dan Fuller, is CEO of the company. With 20 years experience working at Chief Manufacturing, Mr. Fuller continues to redefine the company as his family did in years past.

The company, now ISO certified, continues to increase its capacity and capabilities searching for new markets to manufacture American-made products.
